Overview
The HR Manager is a hands-on, high-impact role responsible for running the day-to-day HR operations for AMPYR Australia. Reporting directly to the CEO (AMPYR Australia) with a dotted line to AGP’s Head of HR, this role will own the full employee lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on payroll, compliance, and building scalable HR foundations.
As a growing business (35 → ~60 employees this year), this role is critical in ensuring HR runs smoothly, efficiently, and compliantly—while also supporting hiring, onboarding, and employee experience. This is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, thrives in a lean environment, and wants to build HR processes from the ground up.

Responsibilities
Payroll, Rewards & HR Operations
- Own end-to-end payroll processing across AU entities in partnership with external vendors—ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
- Liaise with Finance and payroll providers on reconciliations, reporting, cashflow forecasting and statutory submissions (STP, superannuation, tax).
- Manage employee payroll-related matters including superannuation, leave, and novated car lease arrangements.
- Maintain accurate employee data, contracts, and HR systems (HRIS).
- Support benefits administration and employee queries.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Work, ATO requirements, and internal policies.
- Provide support on annual audit (HR section only), salary reviews, benchmarking, and rewards processes as required.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Support CEO in preparing a recruitment strategy for the next phase of business growth
- Manage pipeline of recruitment activities across the business
- Support recruitment activities including position description development targeting the correct skill set, job postings, coordination, candidate management, and agency liaison.
- Work with hiring managers to ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process.
- Prepare employment contracts and ensure compliant documentation.
- Coordinate onboarding and induction to deliver a consistent and positive new joiner experience.
Employee Lifecycle, Performance & Capability
- Manage day-to-day employee lifecycle processes including probation tracking, role changes, and offboarding.
- Support the performance management cycle including goal setting, review coordination, and documentation.
- Assist managers with probation and basic performance management matters.
- Identify training and development needs and coordinate learning initiatives where required.
- Act as the first point of contact for HR queries—providing practical and timely support.
Culture, Engagement & DEI
- Support initiatives that foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
- Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives aligned with global and local priorities.
- Partner with the Admin team to organise team events, engagement activities, and internal initiatives.
- Help drive employee engagement as the business scales.
Compliance, Employee Relations & WHS
- Ensure HR practices are aligned with Australian employment legislation and internal policies.
- Support employee relations matters, escalating where appropriate.
- Assist in adapting and implementing global HR policies locally.
- Support workplace health & safety (WHS) initiatives in partnership with the WHS Director.
HR Projects & Process Improvement
- Support the implementation of HR policies, systems, and frameworks as the organisation grows.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes (e.g. payroll workflows, onboarding, tracking).
- Assist with HR reporting to AGP Group, investors on a timely basis (headcount, attrition, payroll data etc).
Experience, skills and competencies
- 8 – 12 years of HR experience, with strong hands-on ownership of payroll in Australia.
- Solid understanding of Australian employment law and payroll compliance.
- Comfortable being the “go-to” HR person on the ground—operationally strong and responsive.
- Experience in a startup, scale-up, or lean environment preferred.
- Detail-oriented, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Practical communicator—able to work directly with employees and senior stakeholders.
- Self-starter who doesn’t wait for structure—builds it.
Desirable qualifications / professional certification (if applicable)
- Experience with payroll / HRIS platforms (e.g. Deel, Hi-Bob, Culture Amp etc.).
- Exposure to setting up or improving HR systems and processes.
- Experience supporting a business through growth/scaling phase.
- Background in renewable energy, infrastructure, or project-based environments is a plus.
